Agni (Digestive fire) Boosters

According to Ayurveda, listening to your natural appetite is key to being healthy, losing unwanted weight, developing good eating habits, and feeling energized. Suppressing your appetite or eating when not hungry are one of the root causes of emotional eating, impulsive snacking, weight gain, malabsorption, anxiety, hyperacidity, adrenal fatigue etc. This is because the body has an innate intelligence that signals us when the digestive system is ready to digest food and absorb necessary nutrients. When we have a good appetite, the stomach secretes hydrochloric acid (HCL) that is ready to digest.

To develop good eating habits, it is recommended to have three satisfying meals a day without overeating. Some people may have the habit of skipping breakfast and drinking coffee instead, which can lead to overeating and impulsive snacking on incompatible foods, or to anxiety or adrenal fatigue in the future.

To adopt new, beneficial habits, you can stimulate your appetite by consuming the following appetizers 20 minutes before a meal:

  • Tablespoon of fresh lime/ lemon juice with pinch of black pepper and ginger (powder or fresh)

  • Tablespoon of fresh lime/ lemon juice with a pinch of salt.

  • Teaspoon honey with a pinch of crushed pippali.

  • Black pepper, ginger powder and Pippali powder with honey.
